Almost a decade ago, Water News Network was created by San Diego County Water Authority to share San Diego water news with the county. The website hadn't been touched since it's creation, it was time to rethink an old classic.

The redesign overhauled everything from the logo, colors and photos. More importantly, it underwent a restructuring of information to reflect today's UI standards. Upgrades included; optimizing for mobile, making more headlines visible above the fold, creating a robust footer, including social media integrations and featuring the newsletter prominently to encourage subscriptions. To accompany the new website, the launch featured a souped-up email newsletter, paid ads and an improved social media strategy and templates.
Logo
A streamlined san-serif font with a punch of blue brought the logo into the current decade, while still maintaining a news-worthy presence. Multiple versions of the logo ensure a fit in challenging horizontal digital spaces. In its shorthand (WNN), the reader subconsciously hears "win" in the back of their mind.

Color
Water News Networks keeps San Diego County Water Authority's core brand colors, but adds a bright blue that says "I am related, but also doing my own thing."

User Interface
Using a modern, but friendly, rounded typeface offers a huge facelift to the old WNN without too much surgery. SDCWA's topographic pattern is used to tie the website to the main brand.
